Hi everyone,
Just a quick post today on a subject I often get asked about – Instagram shadow banning.
There is some mystery surrounding shadow banning, but Instagram specialists speculate that it’s a real thing.
A great article from PLANN outlines the ban in more detail. According to PLANN, shadow banning is when your hashtags become ‘un-discoverable’. They say that you can use your hashtags, however you’ll only show up in hashtag feeds of your current followers. This means that your images won’t show up in hashtag feeds of anyone who does not follow you, obviously reducing the reach of your account and making it much harder to reach a new audience.
You’ll know if you’ve been affected because you will notice a massive reduction in comments and likes on your posts.
Here’s a list of reasons why you may have been affected:
- You are using Bots, automated services or bought followers.
- You used the same hashtags for months at a time.
- You went on a follow / unfollow spree.
- You used broken hashtags (R18 classified hashtags)
